Valentines

I am hoping for a great Valentines this year...Matthew has made me something and I cant see it...lol.  But in the spirit of the day I am hoping to find a little romance myself....

Origins of Valentine's Day: A Pagan Festival in February

While some believe that Valentine's Day is celebrated in the middle of February to commemorate the anniversary of Valentine's death or burial--which probably occurred around A.D. 270--others claim that the Christian church may have decided to place St. Valentine's feast day in the middle of February in an effort to "Christianize" the pagan celebration of Lupercalia. Celebrated at the ides of February, or February 15, Lupercalia was a fertility festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of agriculture, as well as to the Roman founders Romulus and Remus.

To begin the festival, members of the Luperci, an order of Roman priests, would gather at a sacred cave where the infants Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, were believed to have been cared for by a she-wolf or lupa. The priests would sacrifice a goat, for fertility, and a dog, for purification. They would then strip the goat's hide into strips, dip them into the sacrificial blood and take to the streets, gently slapping both women and crop fields with the goat hide. Far from being fearful, Roman women welcomed the touch of the hides because it was believed to make them more fertile in the coming year. Later in the day, according to legend, all the young women in the city would place their names in a big urn. The city's bachelors would each choose a name and become paired for the year with his chosen woman.

Listening with your whole body

I have always been a lover of music and yesterday Matthew and I got to experience the national orchestra preform a tribute to Tchaikovsky...He was a beautiful Russian.  When we got there it was the same seats we had sat in the previous time at the back of the very large theatre where we had to squint our eyes to see the stage.  The first half of the concert had a beautiful Asian pianist that had fingers that moved at the speed or light with agility and grace that was far beyond the comprehension of most.  During the second half I snuck down to the box office and exchanged our tickets for the front row.    The second half the Overture of of 1812 is very famous and the cellos resonate through out the piece that you can feel it through out your body.  It was amazing to be  that close and in the thick of it to see the conductors face and view  his actions .  In a whole we had a wonderful time and on the way home we stopped at our favorite spot .....Trader Joes.

Today we picked up sticks and Danced

So today has been a great day as I got to come home early from work and we went for a walk and looked for sticks for our fireplace. Matthew is truely a remarkable kid to be able to work so hard cleaning and ot complaining once today about having to do the dishes or sweeping the floor.  We had a long talk about our lives together and discussed that things have to change.  Matthew and I are going to take each day as an adventure and have and hour together of family time.  He gets to decide what we do every other day so today We are also looking forward to planning effective weekends where we go for the day to do something just fun for us.  Follow us on our adventure to fully enjoy our lives.
